Getting ready for the busy season at work

Business is interesting.  I own my little shop where I make creations for decorating (not just wreaths).  And business seems to be steady and grow in a nice pace.  And it’s pretty predictable.  My husband has a construction company and know the schedule of his work too.  Certain times of the year we don’t plan for anything other than work, because we know he’ll be swamped.

I have a brother that has a restaurant kitchen hood cleaning business in Las Vegas.  It’s a pretty new business and he hasn’t been able to put his finger on the seasonality of it.  Apparently, restaurant hood cleaning has no ups and downs in Las Vegas Nevada and is just pacing along without any seasonality.  I know it’s good for him but it makes me realize that I may never see my favorite brother ever again. Unless I go to Las Vegas and go out hood cleaning with him!

Anyway, my point was going to be this: if you own a small business, you really need to figure out your high times and low times so that you can allocate your time properly.  Or at least, so that you don’t drive yourself crazy in trying to figure out why your business went one way or the other.
